Making Molasses- A Mabe Family Tradition

Our furniture is crafted on a working farm where we produce diverse products, including molasses. The Mabe family has been celebrating the tradition of making molasses for over a century, passed down from generation to generation as a source of pride and inspiration.

The Mabe family has perfected the art of making molasses, a labor-intensive and time-consuming process. But our tradition goes beyond this. It's about spending time with loved ones, creating cherished memories, and passing down a legacy from one generation to the next. From the early morning preparations to the hot dog roast over the fire, every step of the process is infused with a deep sense of community and togetherness. It's a reminder that the most valuable things in life are the moments we share with those closest to us.

During the gathering, everyone brings their food to share. There is always an abundance of homemade treats, ranging from savory casseroles and stews to sweet pies and cakes. The fragrance of food cooking over the fire intermingles with the pleasant aroma of boiling molasses, creating a distinct and memorable experience.

The family members take turns stirring the molasses throughout the day to ensure it does not overflow or burn. This requires constant attention, but everyone is happy to help, as the task is enjoyable despite being laborious.

The family gathers to sample the freshly made molasses. It's a moment of satisfaction and accomplishment for everyone. The Mabe family's tradition of making molasses has stood the test of time, bringing happiness and togetherness to the family every year.
